Wednesday Rumour Mill - Transfer Latest
Liverpool are interested in Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer, reports claim.

Liverpool are interested in Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer, reports claim.

The 22-year-old centre-back is viewed as the perfect replacement for Dejan Lovren, who left Anfield earlier this summer.

The Daily Star report on Liverpool's interest, and the Reds will hope Ajer enjoys the same kind of success on Merseyside as Virgil van Dijk – who himself once graced the Celtic Park turf.

Celtic fans on Twitter have been responding to the latest reported transfer rumour surrounding the Scottish club.

This comes after Celtic news Twitter account @Celtic_HQ1 shared a post on their page saying that the Hoops want to sign Crystal Palace midfielder James McCarthy on loan this summer.

This was also reported by 9omin, which claims that Celtic want to sign McCarthy as a potential replacement for Scott Brown.

The 29-year-old, who is currently valued at £3.6 million has made a total of 256 Premier League appearances throughout his playing career in which he has scored 13 goals and provided 16 assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

It appears that the majority of these Celtic fans are not crazy about the idea of McCarthy signing to the club on loan this summer.

It will be interesting now to see if Celtic approach Palace to take McCarthy on loan this summer and if Palace would be willing to let him go or not.

Beram Kayal has issued a come-get-me plea to Celtic boss Neil Lennon, in conversation with the Daily Record.

The 32-year-old joined the Bhoys from Maccabi Haifa in 2010, brought to Parkhead by Lennon, and enjoyed a fruitful stint in the green and white hoops.

Kayal made 132 competitive appearances for Celtic, winning four Scottish Premiership titles and two Scottish Cups, before moving to Brighton in 2015.

The 45-cap Israel international was a hit in England too, with 131 competitive appearances for the Seagulls, plus a loan spell at Charlton in the first half of last season.

Kayal is now is a free agent and, speaking to the Daily Record, the midfielder admits he would relish the chance to link up with his old boss again in pursuit of 10 In A Row.

Celtic have reportedly rekindled their interest in Christian Atsu, according to SportsworldGhana.

The Hoops, who were said to be keen on the Newcastle winger back in January, have reportedly asked about his availability this summer, claims the Ghanaian outlet.

It is also reported that the Magpies are willing to cash in on the £30,000-a-week ace – whose contract expires next year – in the coming weeks.

According to the Glasgow Times, the Hoops sought to sign Atsu on deadline day seven months ago, but the player opted to stay and fight for a place in the Newcastle line-up.

He has had his flashes of brilliance in the Premier League too, his impressive appearance off the bench for Newcastle against Spurs in August 2019 – during which he provided an assist for Joelinton’s winner – coming for praise by Robbie Keane.

“I thought he was brilliant,” Keane told Sky Sports Premier League (25/8/19, 6:43pm). “He wasn’t scared to get at people, he’s very, very confident in possession. Great first touch here, this sets up the goal.”

Providing the finances involved are within Celtic’s budget, Atsu would certainly be a great addition for the Bhoys in their quest for 10 In A Row.

Duncan Castles of the Transfer Window podcast has made the claim Arsenal are very interest in Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard. The podcast which is known for it’s in the know information, mostly surrounding English clubs, claim the Gunners want to spend €25m to sign the Frenchman from Celtic.

“We understand Odsonne Edouard is of great interest to the Gunners. They are willing to pay around €25m for the Celtic striker.” Castles said on the Transfer window pod.

Duncan Castles goes on to say it’s interesting Odsonne has not featured in the past two games for Celtic, perhaps inferring this has something to do with the striker’s transfer status. Eddy has been injured and sat out these games as a result.

Furthermore, Arsenal will NOT be landing the striker for the price quoted above – if they did, it would be a lower amount than they got for Kieran Tierney.

“It’s our understanding Celtic are very much willing to sell and looking for a buyer” Castles claimed.

“Celtic paid a lot of money to secure him from PSG, you have to say they’ve made a good decision there

“He’s scored consistently for Celtic, and it looks like Celtic are going to try and cash in on him”
