Chris Sutton, Stephen Craigan and Michael Stewart discuss what has gone wrong over recent years at Celtic after the club were knocked out of the Champions League qualifiers by CFR Cluj.

Michael Stewart has questioned whether Christopher Jullien was Neil Lennon's signing after leaving him out of his starting XI against Cluj.

The Hoops were knocked out of the Champions League and the new £7million player could only watch on from the bench.

And BT Sport pundit Stewart is puzzled at the decision to leave out the marquee signing for a game of that magnitude, suggesting that it might have been the board's decision to sign Jullien, not Lennon's.

He said on BT Sport: "It does get to the stage where how much more money in the bank do you need. The problem is they've spent the money. And this, for me, is the real crux of it all when you have that disconnect between a manager/head coach with a board, club or director of football.

"It seems as if there is not a common purpose in who they want to sign as a player. When you sign someone defensively for £7m, which is a weak part of the team, and you don't play him. It seems to me like there is a difference of opinion there.

"And ultimately, for me, the head coach or manager needs to make the final choice with the players come in because they are the one who are using him and putting their neck on the line. "

Stewart's fellow pundit Stephan Craigan added: "But he's ultimately made the choice not to play them. So that's his choice. Irrespective of who they sign, if they don't think they're good enough and if he doesn't think they're going to benefit the side, he doesn't put them in the team."

Stewart responded: "The point is how does that work for a strategy as a club?"

Craigan added: "He may have signed him, we don't know the ins and outs."

Stewart replied: "If you sign someone for £7m, you're not going to not start them in Europe."
