Lee Bowyer has confirmed Celtic’s interest in Alfie Doughty – but wants the youngster to commit to Charlton for at least one more season.

The 20-year-old is due to be out of contract next summer but the League One club would still be due compensation if he quit then as he is under the age of 24.

Doughty broke into the Addicks’ first-team fold in November after a loan spell at National League Bromley.

“We did turn down an offer from Celtic,” said Charlton manager Lee Bowyer. “And they were at the game at the weekend, from what I understand.

“But we’ve not heard anything since.

“In an ideal world, and this is just me speaking on how I would advise Alfie, it would be for him to sign another deal and do another year – do a full season with us.

Former Celtic and current Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers is reportedly in for hoops target, Omar Colley, most likely recommended by Lee Congerton.

As reported by Inside Futbol, Italian news outlet Secolo XIX are claiming Celtic are currently €4 million away from Sampdoria’s current asking price, with Neil Lennon’s side willing to pay €6 million.

This has meant that the Premier League side are ready to step in with an offer, making an inquiry for Colley.

They are reportedly ready to offer money, plus Adrien Silva in exchange for the central defender. This could go in their favour, as the current Sampdoria boss, is former Leicester manager, Claudio Ranieri.

Leicester City have been linked with a surprise move for Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor, according to Football Insider.

The Foxes gave previously been credited with an interest in the Scotsman.

McGregor was a subject of transfer interest from LeicesterLeicetser City last summer.

Now, fresh reports claim Brendan Rodgers’ side are set to table a £20m move for the Celtic man.

BARRY DOUGLAS appears set to snub any potential move to Celtic in order to have a crack at a Premier League campaign with Marcel Bielsa’s Leeds United. The Yorkshire side won promotion playing fast, possession-based football and injuries saw Douglas fall down the pecking order. It was reported by Sky Sports, however, that Celtic would offer the Glasgow-born defender a route to regular first team football.

Although it would appear that this won’t happen as Leeds Live report that Douglas is content with his place at Leeds and Bielsa does not want to lose one of the key figures in the Elland Road dressing room.

It is expected that Celtic will return for Mitchel Bakker with a fresh loan bid – likely with a greater share of wages and or a fee.

The ex-Ajax youngster is third choice with the Champions League runners-up with Bernat and Kurzawa ahead of him in Thomas Tuchel’s estimations. Celtic are on the hunt for a left back with Greg Taylor as the only option following Bolingoli’s reckless decision to go to Spain.
