Celtic are set to complete a £3m deal for Kilmarnock star Greg Taylor in the next few days. The full-back was left out by boss Angelo Alessio for Saturday's 0-0 draw with Aberdeen.

It was claimed that a hamstring problem was the reason for his absence. But Herald Scotland report that it is now a matter of time until the 21-year-old is unveiled as a Hoops player.

Taylor will fill the void left by Kieran Tierney, who joined Premier League side Arsenal earlier this month.

Celtic played hardball in talks with the Gunners but eventually let Tierney go in a transfer worth £25m.

Manager Neil Lennon will reinvest £3m on Taylor, who made a surprise Scotland debut at left-back against Belgium in June.

Asked what he wanted in any potential Celtic player, Lennon said: “I look for pace and stamina. Enthusiasm. A piece of quality helps as well.

"There will be times, obviously, when you don’t know about their personalities, so you have to be aware of that and work with it as you go along.

“The main ingredients are not hiding. If you make a mistake the be ready to go again. Bravery is important to play here as well.

“We need to see presence, quality, personality on the pitch. We’ve had some good ones here and they are not all down to me, obviously.

We are hoping the ones that have come in can settle and can be a success here.”

Alessio, meanwhile, insisted that there had been no official bid made up to Saturday night.

"At the moment it’s only rumours," the Kilmarnock boss revealed. "I don’t think the club has received any offers from Celtic.

"We have spoken to the club and the owner and we want to keep our best players."

Celtic beat Hearts 3-1 yesterday to go top of the Scottish Premiership above Rangers on goal difference.
