CELTIC drew 0-0 with French Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais today (Saturday), in a well-contested pre-season friendly at Paradise. Despite ending goalless, the match sets the Scottish champions up well for the second leg of their UEFA Champions League first qualifying round tie against FK Sarajevo this Wednesday.

The Hoops looked lively from the outset as Griffiths pressed the visitors deep into their half. By chasing the Rennes backline and goalkeeper, the striker won his side an early corner, and while the French outfit managed to scramble clear, the early pressure set the tone for the opening stages of the game.

The Scottish champions enjoyed the majority of possession in the first 15 minutes, with Lewis Morgan threatening down the right flank, and Connell, Brown and Sinclair combining well in the centre of the final third.

CELTIC were held to a goalless draw in the final game of their pre-season tour tonight (Tuesday) against FC St Gallen.
The first chance stemmed from some wonderful skill from Mikey Johnston, as the winger won possession in the opposition half. After turning two opposition players out on the touchline, the 20-year-old drove forward and slipped the ball to Forrest on the edge of the area. Johnston met Hayes’ cross at the near post with the slightest of touches but it was too close to the keeper who blocked the effort.
Some nice link-up play between Marian Shved and Odsonne Edouard yielded another opportunity moments laterbut the French striker’s shot inside the box was blocked.

Leigh Griffiths marked his Celtic return with a goal as Neil Lennon's champions got their pre-season preparations off to a winning start in Austria.

The Scotland striker had not featured since December due to a combination of injury and personal issues.

But he bounced back from his off-field problems to fire Celtic level as the Parkhead men recovered from losing a shock opener to thrash Austrian amateurs SC Pinkafeld 6-1.

Griffiths was joined in a youthful starting line-up by Ryan Christie, who was also making his comeback after suffering a horror facial injury in a clash with Aberdeen's Dom Ball during the William Hill Scottish Cup semi-finals, and captain for the day Scott Sinclair.

Neil Lennon paid tribute to his predecessors as Celtic celebrated their eighth successive title win with a 2-1 victory over Hearts, their opponents in this weekend’s Scottish Cup final.

He is, of course, included in that list having won the first three titles in this run. Ronny Deila and then Brendan Rodgers have maintained Celtic’s dominance with Lennon returning in February to help Celtic over the line. They have ended up finishing nine points ahead of Steven Gerrard’s Rangers in second place – the same gap as last season.

Rodgers’ name was not evoked yesterday at a packed Celtic Park but Lennon was given a huge reception when he came out last to receive the trophy from Celtic legend Paul McStay. The fans sang “One Neil Lennon” and he was given a bear hug by Peter Lawwell, the Celtic chief executive.

Bragging rights may be of secondary importance to title deeds in the Premiership’s grand scheme of things but nothing could diminish the delight of Rangers and their supporters as they comprehensively won the final showdown of the season.

Bragging rights may be of secondary importance to title deeds in the Premiership’s grand scheme of things but nothing could diminish the delight of Rangers and their supporters as they comprehensively won the final showdown of the season.
