Celtic won their 30th consecutive domestic cup tie - beating Hibernian in a frantic game at Hampden - to set up a Scottish League Cup final in December with either Rangers or Hearts. Neil Lennon's side, winners of this competition for the past three seasons, were comfortable by the break after Mohamed Elyounoussi's brace either side of goals from Callum McGregor and Melker Hallberg. Captain Scott Brown scored twice in the second half, with Florian Kamberi's consolation in between proving futile. The defeat does little to ease the pressure on Hibernian boss Paul Heckingbottom. The Bhoys make the trip to the National Stadium for a 5:30pm kick-off on Saturday, November 2, having so far seen off Dunfermline Athletic and Partick Thistle in this season’s League Cup campaign. Holders Celtic will host second-tier Partick Thistle in the quarter-finals of the Scottish League Cup. It will be a second consecutive tie against lower-league opposition for Neil Lennon's side, who edged past Championship outfit Dunfermline Athletic on Saturday. Rangers will travel to Livingston, while Kilmarnock host Hibernian and Hearts will welcome Aberdeen. The ties will be played on 24-26 September. |
