A former Belfast councillor who falsely referred to footballer James McClean as a "super Provo" is to pay out £63,000, a court has heard.

A former Belfast councillor who falsely referred to footballer James McClean as a "super Provo" is to pay out £63,000, a court has heard.

The settlement covers damages and legal costs of the Derry-born player's defamation action against Chris McGimpsey.

A High Court judge was told that Mr McGimpsey, a former Ulster Unionist Party representative, will make the payment in two instalments.

He has already issued an unreserved apology for unfounded comments made "in the heat of the moment" during a radio programme debate.

Tensions ran high off the field as Swedish supporters appeared to land blows as stewards attempted to separate them.

Security stormed the away stand and it is understood a number of supporters were huckled out the ground.

Violence broke out inside and outside the stadium before the derby between Olimpia and Motagua in Tegucigalpa.Izaguirre, 33, was one of three players injured when stones were thrown at the Motagua team bus outside the stadium.
