Celtic suffered a shock Europa League last-32 exit after three goals in the final seven minutes of a dramatic - and self-inflicted - defeat by Copenhagen.

Neil Lennon's side seemed set for extra time when Odsonne Edouard coolly dinked in a penalty - awarded for handball after a VAR check - to cancel out Michael Santos' calamitous opener.

But the Danish champions netted twice on the break in the final five minutes - through Pep Biel and Dame N'Doye - to earn a 4-2 aggregate win and mete out Celtic's first defeat in 2020.

It was a bitterly disappointing night for the Scottish Premiership leaders, who were favourites after a 1-1 draw a week ago, but were architects of their own downfall at Celtic Park.

Fraser Forster's dramatic late penalty save ensured Celtic's away goal gives them a narrow advantage after their Europa League last-32 stalemate in Copenhagen.

Odsonne Edouard earned Neil Lennon's team a deserved lead in the first leg before the hosts launched a second-half surge.

Dame N'Doye levelled before Forster acrobatically denied Jens Stage from the spot after a VAR penalty check. The return is in Glasgow next Thursday.

Edouard's 24th strike of the season was the first away goal Celtic have scored in the knockout stage of a European competition since Henrik Larsson's winner against Boavista in 2003.

Lennon's side had to grind out large spells of the second half, but he will be frustrated his team only went into half-time just one goal to the good as Edouard had two one-on-one efforts saved by Karl-Johan Johnsson.

Celtic confirmed top spot in Europa League Group E with one game to spare after a comfortable win over Rennes.

The victory, coupled with Lazio's 1-0 victory over CFR Cluj, means Neil Lennon's side will avoid Champions League dropouts in February's last 32.

Lewis Morgan's second Celtic goal and a Ryan Christie effort had the hosts in control, and Mikey Johnston added to the tally with a superb one-two finish.

Adrien Hunou's glancing header provided a late consolation for the French side.

Celtic will conclude their campaign in Romania against Cluj in two weeks in a game that is now a dead rubber.

A stunning end to Celtic's visit to Lazio saw Olivier Ntcham give Neil Lennon's men a famous win and earn qualification to the Europa League knockout stage.

The visitors, backed by at least 8,000 raucous fans, were on the back foot from the off with Ciro Immobile opening the scoring after seven minutes.

They dug in and started to give as good as they get with Forrest netting a fine equaliser. The second half was a topsy-turvy affair with both teams having chances to win it.

And it was Celtic who did it in the 95th minute of the match, pouncing on slack play from the home side with Ntcham showing his class to chip in the winner, handing the club their first ever win in Italy.

Christopher Jullien's dramatic late header earned Celtic a deserved win over Lazio in an absorbing Europa League clash at Parkhead.

The Scottish champions were more than holding their own before midfielder Manuel Lazzari fired the Italian side ahead in the 39th minute following a textbook counter-attack.

The Hoops' response to the setback was impressive and they levelled in the 67th minute as midfielder Ryan Christie swept in a pass from striker Odsonne Edouard.

And, with a minute remaining, French defender Jullien rose to power home a Christie corner and take the hosts on to seven points at the top of Group E ahead of the return game in Rome in two weeks' time.

Celtic’s Europa League match against Lazio in Rome will be subject to a partial stadium closure after the Italian club were charged with racist behaviour by UEFA.

The charge followed alleged racist chanting from supporters during Lazio’s 2-1 Europa League victory over French club Rennes on October 3 at Stadio Olimpico.

Scottish champions Celtic host Lazio on October 24 and then head to the Italian capital for the return Group E match on November 7, when the partial closure will be enforced.

In a statement, UEFA announced that Lazio will be required to display a banner containing the wording ‘#EqualGame’ and the UEFA logo in the closed section of the stadium.

Lazio have been fined 20,000 euros (£17,300).
